Psalm 145:4 instructs us, “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” Parents of young children who are looking for help fulfilling this important responsibility should check out God’s Mighty Acts in Creation and its companion volume, God’s Mighty Acts in Salvation, by Starr Meade and published by Crossway. Each book contains 40-45 interactive readings, no longer than 2 pages each, designed to help elementary-aged children see the wonders of God. While both volumes are recommended for ages 8-12, our 7-year-old really enjoys them and has no problem grasping the truths presented. Each reading presents a Scripture text, followed by well-written, doctrinally-sound, and age-appropriate teaching and application of the text. Meade was a director of children’s ministries in her church for 10 years and is the author of a number of devotional books for parents with young children. Whether for use in family devotionals, or for the children to read on their own, both of these volumes should be in the library of all Christian parents of elementary-aged children.
